Hand-forged from 18 gauge, low carbon mild steel, this sallet is a fine re-creation of the helmet style which surpassed the earlier bascinet in the mid-15th Century and was suitable for both foot and mounted combat. Just as advancements in armor design led to the development of Gothic Armor styles, so too did helmet styles evolve with the sallet offering even more mobility and range of motion than the bascinet while offering a more rounded protective shell. The rear of the helmet is drawn out into a long tail, consisting of three lames serving to protect the back of the head and neck. Designed to be worn with a separate bevor (helping to allow one to fashion a complete set of full armor protection to their own personal style and taste) with the upper-face protected by a movable half-visor, a natural gap between the helmet and bevor removes the need for breathing holes and with it the possibility of wounds to the face from arrows or other debris flying around the battlefield. A fully adjustable interior lining is made from high quality 100 percent genuine leather and ensures that the helmet has a comfortable fit.
